Frequently asked questions
Why don’t you offer traditional wedding albums?
The traditional wedding album is very heavy and bulky. They tend
to only accommodate one photograph per page mounted on a heavy board.
To get the pages to turn like a book page does they must incorporate
specialized systems that only add to the weight of the book. Our
wedding albums tell a story as no traditional album can. Each page
can be designed with 4 photographs that can tell the unique story
of your wedding. They are then hand bound using traditional bookbinding
methods. This substantially reduces the weight of the book and allows
for considerably more photographs. Your book will not look like
everyone else’s.
How do we get started?
Contact me directly via e-mail (kevin@occasionalbooks.com or by
phone
(503-706-8845). I will set up a consultation with you to explain
the process and answer your questions.
Can you suggest someone to photograph our wedding that is familiar
with your product?
Yes you can find a list of photographers on my web site. Just go
to www.occasionalbooks.com and click on photographers.
Do you work with photographers not on your list?
Yes. They would need to provide me with a high resolution CD with
the edited images of your wedding.
What if I have a friend photograph our wedding?
Many times friends are chosen to photograph a couple’s wedding
or the couple decides that they would like a special photograph
taken by a guest to be included in their album. We can easily accommodate
this. Just have the film scanned at the time of processing. Images
can then be edited off the CD by your friend and then given to us
for design and layout. We can also scan negatives by your guests.
Many guests have digital cameras now and those files can be downloaded
and included in your book.
How will our photographs be made?
Photographers will either photograph your wedding using film or
digital technology. If they chose film then the film will need to
be scanned, edited, and placed onto a CD to be imported into the
computer. If they use digital technology they can download those
images directly into a computer and then transfer them onto a CD.
Where can we go to have digital scans made from our negatives?
I recommend that undeveloped rolls of film be taken to Quick Stop
Photo at 415 SW Washington Portland OR. There they will develop
your film, print a 3 1/2 x 5 and scan your negatives. They do an
exceptional job of creating high resolution scans (ask for 6.0 megapixel
scans) at a very reasonable price. There are also other highly qualified
labs. Just check your yellow pages.
Can you explain how you work with your clients?
I like to start off with a consultation with the couple and the
photographer so that we are all in agreement of the essential points
of your wedding. I will sit down and walk you through the process
of making your album step by step. In this meeting we will discuss
essentials such as the photography, the delivery of files, the layout
and design of the book, the size of your album, colors of fabric
and other essential questions that you might have. I can even help
you choose a photographer.
How long does it take to have an album made?
The average time is about 1 month from the time I receive the edited
photographs.
How long will our album last?
All albums are printed using archival inks and paper. The Japanese
cloth that we use is of the highest quality I could find. The core
of the book is acid free bookbinders board. Your book will be an
heirloom piece that your children will cherish.
Can we see the pages before the album is bound?
Yes you can either check my Web site for the image layouts or printed
proofs will be provided.
Who will do the design of our album?
The layout and design of the pages are included in the cost of your
book if done by me. You will need to provide me with high resolution
images on a CD.Your photographer can also design them.
Can our vows be printed in the book?
Yes. Many things can be added to your book that traditional wedding
albums cannot accommodate.
